Anita Berrizbeitia is a Professor in the Department of Landscape Architecture at Harvard Graduate School of Design. She served as Chair of the Department from 2015 to 2022 and was the Program Director for the Master of Landscape Architecture Degree Programs from 2012 to 2015. Her research focuses on the landscapes of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, examining public realm landscapes and emphasizing material culture, urban political ecology, and the productive functions of landscapes in urbanization and climate adaptation. She has a specific interest in the landscapes of Latin American cities and the role of large-scale infrastructural projects in territorial organization and climate adaptation amidst emerging urbanization. A licensed landscape architect, Berrizbeitia has worked on a wide range of projects, including urban design, campus planning, public parks, and residential gardens. She has served as a consultant to various landscape architectural firms and has been a jury member for multiple international design competitions. At Harvard, she is involved with the Design Review Board and the Radcliffe Institute Public Art Competition and is on the editorial board of the Journal Landscape Architecture. Berrizbeitia received her Bachelor of Arts from Wellesley College in Studio Art and a Master of Landscape Architecture from Harvard University. She is the recipient of the Prince Charitable Trusts Rome Prize Fellowship from the American Academy in Rome in 2006.
