Biography

Anita Bonkowski works both nationally and internationally as a drummer, bassist, composer, and arranger. After earning her graduate degree, she has played at numerous festivals, clubs, and shows across Canada, Europe, and the Caribbean. She is active locally in jazz, blues, and R&B show bands, and has backed renowned musicians including David Foster, the Moody Blues, Sarah McLachlan, Kenny G, Josh Groban, Johnny Mathis, Englebert Humperdinck, and the Canadian Tenors. In addition to her performance career, Anita has been instructing at the University of Victoria since 1996, teaching a broad range of topics in music. Her compositions and arrangements have been performed live on CBC and NPR radio stations abroad. She is also a co-producer, composer, and performer of self-produced CDs and has been commissioned to write for local and national ensembles. Anita has performed in Canada extensively and embarked on her 12th Western European tour booked for the summer of 2019.
