Biography

Anita DeLongis is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of British Columbia. She received her PhD from the University of California-Berkeley in 1985 under the supervision of Richard S. Lazarus. Dr. DeLongis completed a clinical internship in Behavioral Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, and later took part in a National Institute of Mental Health-funded postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Michigan focused on Social Research. Since joining UBC in 1988, she has been instrumental in coordinating health psychology programs and has contributed to numerous editorial boards. Her research primarily examines the interplay between stress and social relationships, focusing on health psychology, stress, family relationships, and coping with chronic illness. She has authored hundreds of publications and her work is widely supported by various Canadian research councils. Some notable areas of her investigation include the effects of family dynamics on marital satisfaction and coping mechanisms in health contexts.
