Dr. Anita Destefano

Biography

Anita L. DeStefano is a Professor at Boston University in the School of Public Health, specializing in Biostatistics. She earned her PhD from Cornell University and holds an MS from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, as well as a BS from Cornell University. DeStefano has held various leadership roles, including serving as the inaugural Associate Director of the BU Genome Science Institute and co-director of the Biostatistics Program. With over a decade of experience, she has developed numerous courses, such as Statistical Genetics, and has been actively involved in the BU Summer Institute for Research Education in Biostatistics, aimed at diversifying the field. Her research primarily focuses on statistical genetics, particularly in identifying genes related to Alzheimer's disease and other neurological conditions. She is a key investigator in international studies and has contributed significantly to various research initiatives, emphasizing diversity, equity, and inclusion in academia. DeStefano has received recognition for her commitment to improving access and support for underrepresented students in scientific research. Her work embodies a dedication to fostering an inclusive environment in Biostatistics and advancing the understanding of genetic factors affecting public health outcomes.
