Dr. Anita Mehta

Biography

Anita Mehta is an Academic Visitor at the Faculty of Linguistics, Philology, and Phonetics at the University of Oxford. She held the Leverhulme Visiting Professorship and is a Rhodes Scholar with an MA and DPhil in theoretical physics from Oxford. Dr. Mehta has worked in the fields of Cambridge, Birmingham, and India. She was a Radcliffe Fellow at Harvard from 2007 to 2008 and an EPSRC Fellow at the Clarendon Laboratory in Oxford from 1998 to 1999. Her research focuses on complex systems and the use of statistical physics approaches for quantitative modeling in linguistics. She has investigated the dynamical evolution of languages, grammatical forms, and speech perception, with a keen interest in the intersection of her physics background and linguistics.
