Dr. Anita Vangelisti

Biography

Anita L. Vangelisti holds the Jesse H. Jones Centennial Chair in Communication at the University of Texas at Austin. Her work primarily focuses on associations between communication, emotion, and context in close, personal relationships. She has published numerous articles in leading journals such as Communication Monographs, Human Communication Research, Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, and Personal Relationships. Vangelisti has also edited and authored several significant texts including the Cambridge Handbook of Personal Relationships and the Routledge Handbook of Family Communication. She co-edited the Cambridge University Press book series on Advances in Personal Relationships and served as an associate editor for the journal Personal Relationships while also being a member of the editorial boards for several scholarly journals. Vangelisti's contributions to the field have been recognized with numerous awards including the Mark L. Knapp Award from the National Communication Association and the Distinguished Book Award from the Family Communication Division of the NCA, among others. She has received the Regents' Outstanding Teaching Award from the University of Texas System and the Teaching Excellence Award from the College of Communication. Vangelisti has served as President of the International Association for Relationship Research and is a Distinguished Scholar of the National Communication Association, also being recognized as a Fellow of the International Communication Association.
