Dr. Anita Vangelisti

Biography

Anita L. Vangelisti is a Professor and Interim Dean at the University of Texas at Austin, holding the Walter Cronkite Regents Chair in Communication and the Jesse H. Jones Centennial Chair in Communication. Her research primarily focuses on communication in close personal relationships, emphasizing the role of emotions and context. She has published numerous articles in prestigious journals such as Communication Monographs and Human Communication Research. Vangelisti has also edited and authored significant works, including the Cambridge Handbook of Personal Relationships and the Routledge Handbook of Family Communication. Her contributions to the field are recognized through various awards, including the Mark L. Knapp Award from the National Communication Association and the Bersheid-Hatfield Award for Distinguished Mid-Career Achievement from the International Association for Relationship Research. She has been acknowledged for her teaching excellence with the Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award from the University of Texas System.
