Biography

Anja Sandström is a Professor in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry at Uppsala University. She earned her Master's degree in Pharmacy in 1997 and completed her PhD in Medicinal Chemistry in 2003 under the supervision of Professor Anders Hallberg. Her career began as a university research scientist, and she became an associate professor in 2009 and a university lecturer in 2011. In 2013, she was a STINT fellow at Amherst College in Massachusetts, USA. Sandström has received multiple teaching awards from Uppsala University's Pharmaceutical Student Union, was recognized as an excellent teacher in 2017, and was promoted to Professor in 2021. She has taken leadership roles including Study Director and Deputy Assistant Head of the Department of Medicinal Chemistry and currently serves as Deputy Dean of Education in the Faculty of Pharmacy. Her research primarily focuses on peptides, peptidomimetics, and drug discovery, with a special interest in developing pharmaceutical compounds for infectious diseases.
