Biography

Anjan Chatterjee, M.D. is a Professor of Neurology at the Perelman School of Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania. He is also affiliated with the Center for Cognitive Neuroscience and the Center for Functional Neuroimaging. Dr. Chatterjee has extensive training and experience in cognitive neurology and dementia. He received his B.A. with honors in Philosophy from Haverford College in 1980 and earned his M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1985. He completed his internship in internal medicine at the Medical College of Pennsylvania and went on to complete his residency in neurology at the University of Chicago. Additionally, he has undertaken fellowships in dementia at Case Western Reserve University and in behavioral neurology at the University of Florida. His research interests primarily focus on cognitive neuroscience, particularly spatial attention and its representation, as well as the neural basis of language and neuro-aesthetics. He employs cognitive experimental paradigms and functional magnetic resonance imaging to explore these concepts, aiming to understand the impact of spatial cognition on perception and behavior. Chatterjee’s work aims to bridge the relationship between sensory-motor systems and language, pursuing ideas that help in constraining cognitive theory.
