Dr. Anjana Pillai

Biography

Anjana Pillai, MD, is a board-certified gastroenterologist and transplant hepatologist specializing in managing chronic liver diseases and complex liver transplants, as well as hepatobiliary malignancies. As the Medical Director of the Transplant Institute's Adult Liver Transplant Program, she plays a crucial role in enhancing patient experiences through her leadership of a team that focuses on both benign and malignant liver tumors. Dr. Pillai is a full member of the University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center and collaborates with the cancer center to provide individualized treatment options for patients. Her involvement in national and international societies demonstrates her commitment to advancing research and setting industry standards. She has held influential roles such as past Chair of the Liver Intestinal Community Practice Executive Committee of the American Society of Transplantation and currently serves as the chair of the Liver Cancer Special Interest Group for the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases. Additionally, Dr. Pillai is the founder and course director of HCC-LIVE, an annual conference dedicated to improving liver cancer care. Through her contributions to various organizations, she aims to shape the future of liver transplantation and ensure that patients benefit from the latest medical research.
