Professor Dr. Anjana Pillai

Biography

Anjana Pillai, MD, is a board-certified gastroenterologist and transplant hepatologist specializing in the management of chronic liver diseases and complex liver transplants, as well as hepatobiliary malignancies. She serves as the Medical Director of the Transplant Institute's Adult Liver Transplant Program and is the Director of the liver tumor program at the University of Chicago. Dr. Pillai leads a team of specialists focused on benign and malignant liver tumors to enhance patient care. As a professor in the Departments of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Chicago, she is a full member of the University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center, collaborating to provide individualized treatment options for patients. Dr. Pillai is actively involved in national and international societies dedicated to advancing research and setting industry standards, including roles on various governing boards and committees within major organizations such as the American Society of Transplantation and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases. She founded the HCC-LIVE course, an annual conference aimed at improving liver cancer care, and her contributions have significantly shaped the future of liver transplantation and cancer care, ensuring patients benefit from the latest research findings.
