Dr. Anjana Pillai

Biography

Anjana Pillai, MD, is a board-certified gastroenterologist and transplant hepatologist at the University of Chicago. She specializes in the management of chronic liver diseases, complex liver transplants, and hepatobiliary malignancies. As the Medical Director of the Transplant Institute's Adult Liver Transplant Program and Director of the Liver Tumor Program, Dr. Pillai leads a team of specialists to enhance patient care and experience. She is a full member of the University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center, where she collaborates on providing individualized treatment options for patients. Dr. Pillai is actively involved in national and international societies focused on advancing research and setting industry standards in liver transplantation. She has held significant positions such as past Chair of the Liver Intestinal Community Practice Executive Committee of the American Society of Transplantation and is currently the chair of the Liver Cancer Special Interest Group of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases. Additionally, she is the founder and course director of HCC-LIVE, an annual conference dedicated to advancing liver cancer care. Her contributions significantly shape the future of liver transplantation and cancer treatment, ensuring patients have access to the latest medical research.
