Biography

Ann Berrington is a Professor in Demography and Social Statistics at the University of Southampton, where she directs the Fertility & Family Strand of the ESRC Centre for Population Change. Ann holds an undergraduate degree in Human Sciences from the University of Oxford, an MSc in Medical Demography from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and a PhD in Social Statistics from the University of Southampton. Her previous roles include serving on the ESRC Grant Assessment Panel from 2010 to 2015 and as an invited member of the Scientific Advisory Group for Understanding Society, focusing on family issues in British birth cohorts. In 2020, Ann received the ESRC Impact Prize for her work with the Centre for Population Change.
