Biography

Ann Farrell is an Associate Professor in the Department of Child and Youth Studies at Brock University. Her research focuses on understanding bullying as a complex social problem influenced by individual, social, environmental, and cultural factors. Dr. Farrell examines how individual traits, such as personality and temperament, contribute to bullying behaviors, as well as the long-term mental health effects of bullying, including violence and aggression. She employs various statistical methods, including longitudinal, person-centered, and structural equation modeling, to investigate these relationships. In addition, Dr. Farrell aims to prevent violence and promote positive mental health among young people through her research. She previously served as a Banting Postdoctoral Fellow and SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Ottawa in the Faculty of Education. Dr. Farrell holds a Ph.D. in Psychology (Lifespan Development) and an M.A. in Child and Youth Studies from Brock University. She actively engages in mentoring undergraduate and graduate thesis students and works with volunteer research assistants.
