Biography

Ann C. Gunter is a Professor in the Department of Classics at Northwestern University. Her research focuses on visual material culture in the ancient Near East and its interactions with Eastern Mediterranean neighbors. Her primary research interests encompass artistic and cultural interaction between the Mediterranean and Near East, as well as the relationship between material culture and social cultural identity. Gunter has extensively studied the reception of ancient Greek and Near Eastern art in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. She has published significant works, including 'Greek Art Orient' (Cambridge University Press, 2009) and contributions to 'Companion to Archaeology of the Ancient Near East' (Wiley-Blackwell, 2012), and is currently editing the 'Companion to Art of the Ancient Near East' (Wiley-Blackwell). At present, she is preparing the final publication of findings from her research on the Late Bronze and Early Iron Age ceramics from the Kinet Höyük site on Turkey's Mediterranean coast.
