Biography

Ann Marie Hoyt-Brennan joined Penn Nursing in 2007, initially as a simulation instructor and later becoming the Simulation Education Specialist in 2013. In 2018, she was promoted to Director, positioning the School of Nursing at the forefront of simulated learning. She has received certifications in simulation facilitation from Children's Hospital Philadelphia and Harvard Medical School. Ann Marie leads a team of simulation education specialists and clinical instructors, and collaborates across various nursing fields to integrate experiential methodologies into healthcare education. With an MSN from New York University and a BSN from the University of Scranton, she has significantly advanced the use of virtual reality (VR) in nursing education. Ann Marie has initiated various collaborations to improve opioid overdose training using VR and has contributed to interdisciplinary projects with Penn’s Graduate School of Education and School of Social Policy and Practice. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes team-based learning and aims to enhance patient-centered care through effective communication and decision-making.
