Biography

Ann McCluskey is a Lecturer at the University of Glasgow in the School of Culture & Creative Arts. She completed her Master’s in Cultural Media Studies from the Open University in 2009 and holds an undergraduate degree in Drawing and Painting from Edinburgh College of Art/Heriot-Watt University obtained in 1987. Prior to her PhD research at the Centre for Cultural Policy Research in 2015, Ann was involved in the cultural heritage sector as a visual artist and documentary filmmaker. With over 20 years of experience as a visual artist, she has been involved in numerous funded projects by the Scottish Arts Council (now Creative Scotland) and was appointed artist-in-residence at a local authority. Additionally, Ann has been engaged in film-making, co-directing the feature-length documentary 'Carbuncle Town' in 2016, which focuses on issues of politics and town planning in Scotland. Her current research as a part-time PhD candidate examines the role of Scottish public service broadcasting and its intersection with national identity, specifically through the lens of factual television programming. Ann also teaches as a Teaching Assistant in the MSc Media Management course, focusing on Cultural Policy in creative industries.
