Biography

Ann Whittle is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Manchester. She studied at Oxford University and earned her MPhil and PhD at University College London. Her doctoral research, supervised by Professors Michael Martin and Tim Crane, focused on the Causal Theory of Properties. Ann has served as a Jacobsen Research Fellow at the University of London from 2003 to 2005 before becoming a lecturer at Trinity College, Cambridge, where she directed studies at Churchill and Magdalene from 2005 to 2007. She has been a permanent part-time lecturer at the University of Manchester since September 2007. Her research interests primarily lie in Metaphysics, including the Philosophy of Mind and Ethics, particularly in the areas of mental causation, free will, and moral responsibility. Ann is also keen to supervise postgraduate students in topics such as Causation and the Laws of Nature.
