Ann Wilson is a retired Associate Professor in the School of Theatre, English, and Creative Writing at the University of Guelph. Her current research focuses on issues surrounding constructions of gender and masculinity in the context of middle-class life in late Victorian and Edwardian England. She is particularly interested in the formations of middle-class heterosexual masculinity and the decline of this mode of masculinity as part of the 19th century. The focus of her work is theatrical expressions of gender and sexuality, especially in plays written in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, paying attention to how these interests manifest in performance. Over the past ten years, her research area has expanded to include a maintained active interest in contemporary Canadian and British women playwrights.
