Anna-Rose Shack is a PhD candidate at the Amsterdam School of Historical Studies, University of Amsterdam. Her NWO-funded doctoral research explores the varied representations of articulate vulnerability in lyric poetry by sixteenth and seventeenth-century female poets. The project focuses on the works of Anne Lock, Isabella Whitney, Aemilia Lanyer, Hester Pulter, and Katherine Philips. Previously, she studied English Theatre studies at the University of Melbourne, specializing in twentieth-century Irish literature, and completed her Research Master's in Literary Studies at the University of Amsterdam with a thesis on Shakespeare’s soldiers and civilian life during the home front. Beyond her research, Anna-Rose is passionate about making literature accessible through public outreach and performances. She has conducted workshops in various settings, including the Krijtberg Catholic Church in Amsterdam to celebrate International Women’s Day in 2023. In December 2020, she co-founded an international graduate student network focused on seventeenth-century women’s poetry, which continues to foster connections among graduate students. Anna-Rose is also a member of the Parergon early career committee, and in the 2023–2024 academic year, she is teaching a BA course on Shakespeare. She has co-taught a successful course on Renaissance Women Writers nominated for a teaching award in 2023 and has contributed to teaching Early Modern English Literature and academic writing support courses.
