Anna-Sofie Stensgaard is an Associate Professor at the University of Copenhagen specializing in vector-borne diseases. Her research focuses on understanding the distributions and dynamics of these diseases in response to climate change and other environmental factors. Stensgaard aims to quantify the effect of climate change compared to other environmental drivers to make informed predictions about future disease spread trends. Her group employs a combination of field-collected and lab-based data, as well as statistical and mathematical modeling, to elucidate how anthropogenic changes, climate change, biodiversity loss, and habitat disruption influence the distribution and dynamics of vectors, pathogens, and host reservoir species. Current research projects explore diseases transmitted by mosquitoes, ticks, and snails, including Rift Valley fever, West Nile virus, and fascioliasis in Europe and Africa. She leads the EU Horizon 2020 project PREPARE4VBD, dedicated to enhancing preparedness for emerging vector-borne parasitic diseases.
