Biography

Anna Banerji is the Director of Global Indigenous Health Continuing Professional Development in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. She specializes in pediatrics with a focus on infectious diseases and tropical medicine, particularly within global health contexts. Dr. Banerji completed her Master of Public Health in International Health from Harvard University and has concentrated her clinical research on vulnerable populations, specifically Indigenous and refugee children. In 2007, she established the Immigrant Health Infectious Disease Clinic to assist immigrant and refugee children. She also plays a significant role as a consultant at COSTI for assessing newly arrived refugee children. Dr. Banerji pioneered the Canadian Refugee Health Conference in 2009 and the inaugural Indigenous Health Conference in 2014, aimed at addressing health inequities. Her research has extensively evaluated lower respiratory tract infections in Inuit children, influencing changes in public health guidelines. She is recognized for her commitment to advocacy for vulnerable populations and was inducted into the Order of Ontario in January 2012.
