Dr. Anna Barker

Biography

Anna is an experienced healthcare leader, innovator, and clinical researcher with over 20 years of research experience in the health industry, spanning company start-ups and academia. She holds degrees in Physiotherapy (B.Phty, M.Phty in Geriatrics) and a PhD, demonstrating a strong academic foundation in her field. Anna is passionate about healthy aging and innovative models of support for the healthcare experience of older adults. As the Executive Director of Research & Innovation at Silverchain, she has led significant strategies to enhance healthcare delivery both in Australia and internationally. Her expertise includes health service evaluation and the integration of innovation with clinical research activities. Previously, Anna was the Head of the Health Services Research Unit at Monash University and has been influential in fracture and fall prevention research with over 100 publications. She has collaborative research partnerships with notable institutions such as the Mayo Clinic and Bournemouth University Dementia Institute. Her research findings have had substantial impacts, exemplified by the landmark falls prevention trial involving over 40,000 patients published in the BMJ. Additionally, she authored the 'Palgrave Handbook of Physical Activity and Health Promotion,' which has sold over 15,000 copies worldwide.
