Biography

Anna Bernardi graduated in Architecture from the Accademia di Architettura at Università della Svizzera italiana and obtained her Ph.D. with a focus on the connections between architecture, trauma, memory, and the historical significance of spaces concerning traumatic events. She collaborates as a scientific lecturer at the Institute of History and Theory of Art and Architecture (ISA). Between 2020 and 2022, she was part of the curatorial team for the exhibition 'Territory Palimpsest: the legacy of André Corboz,' held at the Teatro dell'Architettura in Mendrisio during the fall/winter of 2022. In 2023, Bernardi published the book 'Architettura e politiche della memoria. Louis Kahn e Peter Zumthor: due progetti non realizzati,' for which she received the 'Premio Emilia Zinzi la storia dell'arte 2023.' Her research primarily explores the aesthetic, ethical, and political meanings of memorial sites associated with traumatic historical events of the 20th and 21st centuries, with an emphasis on the ways memorial spaces are experienced.
