Biography

Anna Blennow is a Professor at the University of Gothenburg, employed since 2014 in the Latin Department of Languages and Literatures. She teaches Latin at first and second-cycle levels and has developed the course Latin Epigraphy. Her current research, funded by the Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation, focuses on the arrival of Latin in the Nordic region during the early Middle Ages, particularly through Latin inscriptions. Collaborating with runologist Alessandro Palumbo, Blennow studies the interplay between Latin and runic scripts in the Nordic epigraphic culture. Her various projects have included a scholarly edition of medieval Latin inscriptions and an interdisciplinary guidebook on Rome, published by De Gruyter. Blennow has authored several publications, including a popular science book on medieval Rome and numerous papers exploring Latin literature's impact. She is deeply involved in historical and cultural studies, particularly regarding the influence of Latin during the Middle Ages and its legacy in modern times.
