Biography

Anna Calori joined the University of Glasgow in September 2023 as a Lecturer in Contemporary Economic History within the Political & International Studies department. Her research interests encompass global economic and social history with a particular focus on the aftermath of the Cold War, as well as business and labor histories in Eastern Europe. She is also deeply engaged in the history of international development and technical cooperation in former socialist countries, particularly in the developing world. Calori's research is primarily situated in the Western Balkans and Former Yugoslavia, along with countries in the non-aligned world, especially Cuba and Zambia. Her work explores the economic history of state socialism as part of European and global history, examining its legacies and afterlives. Prior to her appointment at Glasgow, Calori was a research fellow at the Research Center for History Transformations at the University of Vienna and has held various research fellowships, including a post-doctoral fellowship funded by the Marie Sklodowska Curie COFUND initiative. She has a PhD from the University of Exeter, which was part of collaborative research investigating the historical context of the decline of socialism from a global perspective.
