Biography

Anna Cant is a Latin American historian specializing in twentieth-century politics, cultural history, and rural development. She earned her PhD in History from the University of Cambridge in 2015, with a thesis focused on land reform in Peru. Her manuscript, "Land Masters: Agrarian Reform and Political Change under Peru's Military Government," was published by the University of Texas Press in 2021. This book compares various regions in Peru, examining the cultural and political impacts of the radical agrarian reform introduced by Juan Velasco Alvarado’s military government in 1969. Before joining the London School of Economics (LSE) in September 2018, Dr. Cant was a visiting researcher at Los Andes University in Bogotá, Colombia, where her postdoctoral research centered on radio education in rural Colombia during the 1960s and 70s. Currently, Dr. Cant is developing a new research project that explores the history of Catholic radio in the Andean region and continues to teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses within her department. Additionally, she has shared her expertise on multiple platforms, including podcasts and conferences, focusing on themes related to agrarian reform and communication technologies in Latin America.
