Biography

Anna Casas Aguilar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of French, Hispanic, and Italian Studies at the University of British Columbia (UBC). She holds a B.A. in Spanish Latin American literature from the University of Barcelona and a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto. Her academic focus encompasses contemporary Peninsular literature, cultural studies, gender studies, and the intersection of autobiography and psychoanalysis. Before her position at UBC, she held tenure-track appointments at Wright State University and Whitman College. Casa Aguilar has a particular interest in literature, cinema, and photography, exploring how these media contribute to discussions surrounding gender identity and masculinity in contemporary Spain. Her forthcoming book, 'Masculine Subjectivity: Self-writing in Spain,' critically examines the works of notable Catalan authors under the Franco regime and their portrayal of fatherhood and masculinity, shaped by psychoanalytic and feminist theories. She actively contributes to academic debates in gender theory and feminist studies through her research and publications.
