Biography

Anna Casas Aguilar is an Associate Professor in the Department of French, Hispanic and Italian Studies at the University of British Columbia (UBC). She obtained her Ph.D. from the University of Toronto, where she also earned her M.A. She has a B.A. in Spanish Latin American literature (Filología Hispánica) and a D.E.A. in Romance Literatures from the University of Barcelona. Prior to her appointment at UBC, she held tenure-track positions at Wright State University and Whitman College. Her research and teaching interests include contemporary Peninsular literature and culture, Catalan studies, Spanish and Latin American cinema, photography, gender theory, and feminism. Her notable publication is the book "Bilingual Legacies: Father Figures Self-Writing Barcelona" published by the University of Toronto Press in 2022. Currently, she is conducting research supported by the SSHRC Insight Grant on the topic "Confronting Europe: Tourism, Gender Models Regional Consciousness Spain," focusing on the impact of European tourism on gender and regional identities in Spain from the 1960s to the present.
