Dr. Anna Christie

Biography

Anna Christie is a Departmental Lecturer in Law and Finance at the University of Oxford. She studied for a joint degree in Law and Accounting & Finance at the University of Aberdeen, graduating with top class honors. After her undergraduate studies, Anna pursued an LLM at Harvard Law School followed by a BCL at Balliol College, University of Oxford, where she graduated with Distinction. Additionally, Anna earned an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business and a Ph.D. from Trinity College, University of Cambridge. She is a triple-qualifying lawyer in New York, England & Wales, and Scotland, with a decade-long career in legal practice. She began her professional career as an Associate in the energy and climate change department of the international law firm CMS and later worked as a Senior Associate in cross-border mergers and acquisitions at Skadden. Anna has spent years in-house at a global FTSE 100 energy company, where she served as Chief of Staff to the CEO and Senior Legal Counsel, playing a key role in launching the company's renewable energy division. Her broad research interests include comparative corporate governance, law, and finance, with current research focusing on sustainable corporate governance, environmental and social investing, shareholder activism, and takeovers. Anna's work is interdisciplinary, combining legal scholarship with economic and financial analysis, utilizing empirical research methods and data science techniques to examine the impact of laws and practices on policy choices. Her academic research has been published in various leading journals, and she has contributed to the Oxford Business Law Blog and Columbia Law School's Blue Sky Blog. Anna also holds positions as Director of Studies in Law at Newnham College, University of Cambridge, Research Associate at the University of Cambridge's Centre for Business Research, and Visiting Fellow at the LawFin Center at Goethe University, Frankfurt. She actively participates in outreach initiatives aimed at increasing social mobility in education and business.
