Dr. Anna Christiernsson

Biography

Anna Christiernsson is an Associate Professor at the Department of Law, Stockholm University, specializing in Environmental Law. She has a research focus on the role of law in governing complex dynamic ecosystems to achieve environmental targets, particularly in the context of marine biodiversity and ecosystem management. Her ongoing projects include leading interdisciplinary research initiatives funded by Formas and the Swedish Energy Agency, addressing sustainable energy use and cultural heritage values. Throughout her academic career, Christiernsson has contributed to multiple research activities related to fisheries management, marine conservation, and legal frameworks for biodiversity in Sweden and the European Union. She teaches Swedish, EU, and international environmental law while supervising master's theses and Ph.D. students. Her academic journey began with a doctoral thesis on the role of law in handling complex ecosystems, completed in 2011 at Luleå University of Technology. Following this, she held a postdoctoral position at the Faculty of Law, Uppsala University, focusing on marine environmental research. She has been actively involved in outreach through legislative processes, conferences, and seminars, contributing her expertise to discussions on biodiversity and ecosystem services.
