Dr. Anna Clark

Biography

Anna Clark is an Associate Professor of Ancient History at the University of Oxford, specializing in Roman history, particularly the middle republican and early imperial periods. She holds advanced degrees from the University of St Andrews and the University of Oxford, where she has dedicated her academic career to exploring various facets of historiography and Roman literature. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, where she instructs students in Roman papers within the Ancient History and Classics departments, Anna conducts research that examines the complexities of Roman society through both historical texts and contemporary interpretations. Her current research project, ‘Approaching Roman Society’, aims to present a series of case studies that contribute to the understanding of Roman social structures and cultural interactions. Throughout her career, Anna has engaged with relevant discourses across fields like epistolography and Roman comedy, enhancing the study of ancient sources in the context of modern academic scenarios. She is also involved in collegial activities at Christ Church, further enriching the academic environment at the University of Oxford.
