Dr. Anna Esselment

Biography

Anna Esselment is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Waterloo. She earned her PhD from the University of Western Ontario, where her research primarily focused on the role of partisanship in intergovernmental relations in Canada. Her broader areas of research and writing include Canadian politics, political parties, campaigns and elections, political marketing, Canadian institutions, and federalism. Prior to commencing her PhD, she worked as a policy advisor to the Opposition Leader, Dalton McGuinty, at Queen's Park. Among her notable publications are books and peer-reviewed chapters on topics such as authenticity in political marketing and the dynamics of Ontario's political parties. She has contributed to edited collections and various peer-reviewed journals, further establishing her expertise in Canadian political processes.
