Biography

Anna Howard is a lawyer, mediator, and researcher with over 20 years of experience in legal practice, teaching, and research. Her research is concentrated on dispute resolution, particularly mediation and investor-state dispute settlement. She authored the book 'EU Cross-Border Commercial Mediation: Listening Disputants' published by Wolters Kluwer in 2021, which has had a significant impact and has been cited by the UNCITRAL Secretariat and the Scotsman newspaper. In addition to her academic pursuits, Anna actively practices mediation. From November 2022 until late 2025, she served as an assistant to Lord Neuberger in mediating hundreds of claims related to the Grenfell Tower fire. She is also a well-regarded international speaker, having presented on mediation at leading universities and institutions including Oxford University and the UNCITRAL Academy. Anna began her academic career in Singapore and returned to England after being awarded a scholarship to undertake her PhD at Queen Mary University of London. Before moving into academia, Anna practiced competition law at both Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Fieldfisher.
