Dr. Anna Jarstad

Biography

Anna Jarstad is a Professor of Political Science with a specialization in International Relations at Uppsala University. She leads an international research network on Varieties of Peace and has extensive research experience in peacebuilding, democratization, and multiethnic states that are impacted by civil conflicts. Her research includes a key project, Relational Peace, which aims to define and analyze different varieties of peace in both post-war and civil war contexts. Jarstad has supervised numerous PhD students and has been involved in various academic committees. She is also known for her contributions to significant publications, including co-editing 'Relational Peace Practices' and researching the intersection of democratization and peace within war-torn societies. Over her career, she has received substantial research funding and has collaborated on projects that investigate the dynamics of local ownership in peace efforts, contributing to policy forums and expert panels. Her current research focuses on the Living Contested Land project, which examines peaceful coexistence in areas with unresolved territorial disputes, particularly in Cyprus. Jarstad has a proven track record in conducting fieldwork across various conflict-affected regions, providing a rich understanding of the complexities of peace and democratization in divided societies.
