Biography

Anna Persson is an Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer at the Department of Political Science, University of Gothenburg. She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Gothenburg, a Master’s degree from Lund University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. Her research interests lie in comparative politics, comparative political economy, development, and democratization. Specifically, she studies the interactions between formal and informal institutions and the behavior of political elites regarding public goods provision. Persson has extensively explored themes of corruption, anti-corruption reform, taxation, and state capacity in fostering democratic governance. Currently, she leads a project titled 'Power Ideas: New Perspectives on State Capacity and Public Goods Provision in Emerging Democracies,' funded by the Swedish Research Council. Her work has been published in notable venues such as Governance and Comparative Politics. In addition to her academic duties, Persson advises various organizations, including the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency and Transparency International. She coordinates courses on qualitative research methods and has served as a supervisor for students at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
