Dr. Anna Scaglione

Biography

Anna Scaglione is a professor in electrical and computer engineering at Cornell Tech and is the program director of the Urban Tech program. She is an expert in the broad area of statistical signal processing with applications in communication networks, electric power systems, intelligent infrastructure, and network science. Her research focuses on decentralized optimization, machine learning, energy systems, cyber-physical systems, and smart grids, with a particular emphasis on the integration of communication and control in distributed systems. Before joining Cornell Tech, Scaglione was a professor of electrical and computer engineering at Arizona State University, where she remains an adjunct faculty member. She has held academic positions at the University of California, Davis, and at Cornell University, where she became an associate professor with tenure in 2006. Scaglione began her academic career as an assistant professor at the University of New Mexico. Throughout her career, she has received numerous prestigious accolades, including being elected a Fellow of IEEE in 2011 for her contributions to signal processing, communication networks, and smart grids. She won the IEEE Signal Processing Transactions Paper Award in 2000 and the IEEE Donald G. Fink Prize Paper Award in 2013. In addition, she received the Technical Achievement Award from the IEEE Communication Society Technical Committee on Smart Grid Communications in 2020. Her work with student Lin Li earned the IEEE Signal Processing Society Young Author Paper Award in 2013, and she has received several conference paper awards. Additionally, Scaglione served as a Distinguished Lecturer for the IEEE Signal Processing Society from 2019 to 2020. Her pioneering research continues to shape the fields of network science, communication technologies, and sustainable energy systems, driving innovation in intelligent infrastructure and urban technology.
