Dr. Anna Schuh

Biography

Professor Anna Schuh completed academic clinical haematology training in Oxford, United Kingdom. Between 2006 and 2014, she acted as clinical director of haematology laboratories molecular diagnostics at Oxford University NHS Hospital Trust, one of the largest NHS trusts in the UK. She was appointed as a professor at the University of Oxford in 2014 and has led 50 early and late-phase clinical trials in chronic lymphocytic leukaemia as the principal chief investigator, changing clinical practice for patients in the UK and worldwide. She served as chair for the UK CLL Forum from 2015 to 2018, chaired the National Cancer Research Institute Collaborative Group for Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia from 2018 to 2022, and was appointed to the board of iwCLL in 2019, establishing the Global Partnership Committee. Professor Schuh is the founder and clinical director of the Oxford Molecular Diagnostics Centre, which has 15 staff members, and established an online part-time multidisciplinary MSc programme in Precision Cancer Medicine for students from six continents. She became a senior member of MUHAS faculty in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, in 2019, where she actively contributes to the MMed programme in haematology, delivers bedside teaching to residents, and supervises MSc and PhD students. She has authored or co-authored 150 peer-reviewed publications, achieving an h-index of 50 with 8000 citations as of 2017. Additionally, she holds a patent for non-invasive prenatal diagnosis and is a co-founder of biotechnology start-ups like Seren, a social enterprise aimed at improving access to DNA-based diagnostics in sub-Saharan Africa.
