Dr. Anna Schwendeman

Biography

Dr. Anna Schwendeman has been a notable researcher in the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Michigan since her appointment in 2012. Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Science from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University. Her research focuses on optimizing synthetic high-density lipoproteins (sHDL) for the treatment of conditions such as atherosclerosis and lysosomal storage diseases, as well as developing vaccines and drug delivery systems. Dr. Schwendeman has contributed significantly to cardiovascular research, leading efforts to stabilize and formulate HDL nanoparticles using controlled release systems. She has also been involved in overseeing various FDA regulatory submissions and has worked extensively on the clinical advancement of five sHDL products. In addition to her research, she has served as an Associate Editor for journals such as the European Journal of Pharmaceutics and Biopharmaceutics and is actively involved in grant review and consultancy. Throughout her career, Dr. Schwendeman has earned several accolades, including the Scientist Development Grant Award from the American Heart Association and recognition as the winner of the Biomedical Innovation Shark Tank.
