Biography

Anna Ström holds a PhD in Food Nutritional Sciences from University College Cork, Ireland. Her PhD research focused on the fine structure of polysaccharides, specifically pectin, and its impact on functionality. After completing her PhD, Anna moved to the Netherlands where she worked at Unilever R&D as a research manager and project leader. With seven years of experience in industrial research, she took a position at Chalmers University of Technology. Her work there has included projects at SuMo Biomaterials and the Vinn Excellence Center, focusing on molecular transport in soft materials. In 2018, she became a ‘docent’ in Biopolymer Technology. Anna's research interests primarily center around polysaccharides, specifically the relationship between fine structure and polymer conformation in relation to gel material properties, contributing to knowledge that is important for the utilization of circular bioeconomy in sectors such as food and pharmaceuticals. From 2017 to 2019, she served as the Director of Food Science Sweden, an initiative aimed at visualizing and strengthening food science in Sweden, and in 2019, she became the Program Director for the Biology and Biotechnology program at Chalmers.
