Biography

Anna Tosato is a Bhagwan Munisuvrata Swami Post-doctoral Research Associate in the Department of Religion at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She holds an MA (Cum Laude) in Asian Studies from the University of Venice 'Ca’ Foscari'. She was awarded a five-year research grant from the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Her graduate studies focused on Indology. Tosato spent five years in India as a research fellow in the Department of Ancient History and Archaeology at the University of Mysore and obtained her Ph.D. in Ancient History and Archaeology. Her dissertation explored the relationship between dance and sculpture in South Indian temples. Throughout her years in India, she conducted archaeological fieldwork under the supervision of Dr. M. S. Nagaraja Rao, the former director of the Archaeological Survey of India, and studied traditional texts on Indian arts with renowned scholars. Since August 2019, she has been affiliated with the Department of Religion at UIUC, where she teaches various courses related to South Asian studies.
