Biography

Annabel Biruete is an Assistant Professor and Registered Dietitian in the Department of Nutrition Science at Purdue University, also serving as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Division of Nephrology at the Indiana University School of Medicine. Her clinical interests primarily focus on nutrition in kidney diseases. Dr. Biruete’s research aims to study the effects of nutritional pharmacological therapies on chronic kidney disease and the gastrointestinal tract's gut microbiome. She is particularly dedicated to improving outcomes for the Hispanic/LatinX community affected by chronic kidney disease, emphasizing nutritional interventions that utilize culturally relevant educational materials. Dr. Biruete completed her Bachelor of Science in 2011 from the Escuela de Dietética y Nutrición, obtained her PhD in 2017 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and became a Registered Dietitian in 2018 from Ball State University. She also completed a postdoctoral fellowship in 2021 at the Indiana University School of Medicine.
