Dr. Annabel Wharton

Biography

Annabel Wharton is the William B. Hamilton Distinguished Professor of Art History at Duke University, where she has held the position since 2004. She previously served as the Vincent Scully Visiting Professor at Yale School of Architecture in 2014 and as the Harry Porter Visiting Professor in Architectural History at the University of Virginia School of Architecture in 2019. Wharton received her Ph.D. from the Courtauld Institute, London University. Her research initially focused on Late Ancient Byzantine art culture. She has authored several significant publications, including articles on the intersection of architectural history and societal issues, as well as a book addressing climate change's impact on cultural models. Wharton's work emphasizes the model's role in understanding social dynamics within architectural contexts, reflecting her deep engagement with themes of representation in art and architecture.
