Professor Annabelle Gould joined the Division of Design in 2003, focusing on teaching typography as a primary means of communication and creative expression. Her creative scholarship centers on designing publications for arts and cultural clients including Chronicle Books, Traver Gallery, Lead Pencil Studios, and Marquand Books at the University of Washington. She has been an adjunct instructor at the Art Center College of Design and Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles. Annabelle is an active member of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) and served as co-chair of AIGA's national Design Educators Community Steering Committee from 2015 to 2017. Her design work has been recognized in the AIGA 50 Books/50 Covers competition, the Type Director’s Club, the Society of Publication Designers, and Print Magazine. In 2012, she collaborated with colleague Karen Cheng to produce an issue of ARCADE Magazine focusing on design education. Annabelle is the creator and designer of the AIGA Design Teaching Resource, a peer-populated platform where educators can share classroom assignments and reflections. Additionally, she featured in the podcast ThisIsDesign.School discussing her views on design education.
