Biography

Annalisa Nicholson is a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow at King's College London, where she explores the intersections of early modern literature and history, focusing on French and Francophone literature, women's writing, and exile studies. After completing her undergraduate studies in French and Russian at University College London (UCL), she pursued an MA in Early Modern Studies at UCL. She received her PhD in French from the University of Cambridge, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, in 2021. Following her doctoral studies, she took on the Laming Research Fellowship at Queen’s College, Oxford. Annalisa's research covers a wide range of interests from early modern women and salons to displacement and libertinism. Her forthcoming book, 'A Salon-in-Exile' (Bloomsbury History: 2025), highlights the role of the Franco-Italian exile Hortense Mancini in shaping late seventeenth-century London's literary culture. In addition to her research, she enjoys engaging the public through various initiatives that promote the significance of literature and history. Annalisa also teaches on topics related to French literature, early modern history, and paleography.
