Dr. Anne Berger

Biography

Anne Emmanuelle Berger holds an 'agrégation de Lettres modernes' (1981) and is a Doctorate holder from the University of Paris VIII (1990). She also attained her 'Habilitation à diriger des recherches' in 1999. She currently serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Romance Studies at Cornell University and has previously held a position as a Professor of French Literature. She has worked at the University of Paris 8 Vincennes – Saint-Denis, where she co-chaired the Centre de Recherches en Etudes Féminines et Études de Genre and directed the newly established Institute for Gender Studies, a national research unit supported by the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). Her academic interests encompass feminist theory, American gender queer theory, 19th-century poetry and poetics, Enlightenment continental philosophy, and psychoanalytic theory, with a particular focus on cultural politics in the Maghreb. Berger's notable publications include works on Rimbaud and various edited volumes that bridge literature with gender studies and postcolonial discourse. Her scholarly articles have been featured in reputable literary journals in France, Canada, the USA, and the UK, demonstrating her active contribution to academic discourse in her fields of interest.
