Biography

Anne Hoger received her Ph.D. in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from the University of Illinois in 1984. She has held visiting professor positions in the Department of Mathematics at Carnegie-Mellon University and in the Department of Applied Mechanics at the California Institute of Technology. Hoger joined the faculty at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) in 1987. Her research interests are centered around continuum mechanics, specifically focusing on the application of these principles to biological materials. Current projects include the development of constitutive theory for residually stressed elastic materials, elucidating the role of residual stress in growth, and developing constitutive equations that are suitable for articular cartilage. Throughout her career, she has received several accolades, including the NSF Presidential Young Investigator award and the Jacobs School of Engineering Teaching Award, as well as the Academic Senate award for her teaching excellence.
