Anne Kessler is an Assistant Scientist in the Molecular Microbiology and Immunology program at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She is primarily interested in the use of molecular serology-based technologies at the field level to address global public health challenges. Dr. Kessler's current research focuses on the application of high-throughput molecular serology tools to understand malaria epidemiology, risk factors for infection, disease diagnostics, and the evaluation of interventions. She has served as the Assistant Director of the Center for the Study of Complex Malaria in India, which is an NIAID-funded International Center of Excellence for Malaria Research, for seven years. Her work has involved establishing new field sites, training laboratory and field personnel, and developing workflows for participant enrollment, sample collection, and downstream application use. Her research interests include the development and evaluation of molecular diagnostics for infectious agents, the determinants of severe clinical syndromes related to malaria, and the impact of co-infections on malaria risk and transmission outcomes.
