Biography

Anne Kveim Lie is a visiting professor in the Department of the History of Medicine, having conducted research during the academic year 2022/2023 as a Fulbright research fellow. She has a background as a trained physician and holds a PhD in medical history. Anne’s research focuses on the history of sexually transmitted diseases, the history of pharmaceuticals and regulation, and the social medicine related to community healthcare. She has directed a community medicine program and teaches various courses about social determinants of health, medical anthropology, and medical sociology at the medical school level. Her clinical practice includes experiences as a family doctor in the Lofoten Islands and volunteering in a health center for undocumented migrants in Oslo. Through her historical research, Anne aims to connect clinical practice with historical inquiries. Currently, she is exploring the new field of medical waste history, alongside engaged global projects regarding antibiotic resistance and healthcare practices. Anne collaborates with anthropologists and historians, fostering interdisciplinary research in health and medicine.
