Biography

Anne Rowat is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing at the University of Glasgow. She has held clinical nurse positions at NHS Lothian and academic roles at both the University of Edinburgh and Edinburgh Napier University. In 2000, she completed her PhD, which focused on physiological monitoring during the acute phase of stroke. Throughout her career in nurse education, she has gained national and international experience, allowing her to develop and teach a variety of courses for pre-registration and post-registration nursing, as well as health and social care undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Her key teaching areas include caring for individuals with long-term conditions, neurology, research methods, ethics, and clinical skills. In 2017, she was awarded Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). Her research interests involve the management of post-stroke complications to improve patient outcomes, experiences of care, and reducing avoidable harm. This includes projects focused on the frequency of dehydration and renal problems following a stroke. Recently, she has been engaged in research addressing integrated approaches to support patients and carers managing the long-term consequences of stroke, with studies aimed at helping patients self-manage their conditions and provide peer support for exercise after a stroke.
